A total of 4702 aphid species have been identified in the world, out of this around  653 species are found in India. Aphids are phloem feeders they cause direct leaf crumpling and leaves curl downwards after severe infestation.

Aphids as vector(stylet borne)

  • 55% of arthropod borne viruses are spread by Aphids
  • Aphids transmit majorly in a Non persistent manner, but in a few cases it spreads persistently and also semi persistent.

 katte disease of cardamom and Banana bunchy top are transmitted by Pentalonia nigronervosa
