Pesticides are
recommended in three ways for its field application such as amount of
pesticides per hectare (kg/ha), amount of active ingredient (kg a.i./ha) and concentration of solution to
be applied ( eq 0.07 % of endosulfan).
If recommended as kg a.i./ha:
Rate of pesticides is given mainly in terms of a.i. /ha
Rate of application
Quantity of material required per hectare =
----------------------------------- X 100
Active
ingredient in %
If recommended as
per cent concentration :
Volume of spray
solution (liter) X
Per cent strength of pesticide solution to be sprayed
Amount of pesticide=
-------------------------------------------------------------------
per cent strength of pesticide given (a.i./l or kg)
If
recommended as g a.i. applied per ha :
g a.i. applied per ha = kg
or L of product applied X g
active ingredient
ha L or kg of product
Herbicide
Calculation for a given area :
Recommended dose of a.i.
(kg/ha) _ X 100 X area
% concentration (a.i.) in formulated product
x 10,000
Quantity of
Commercial produce 100 required (kg/ha):
= Rate
of herbicide application (a.i kg/ha) X 100
% active
ingredient
Pre-emergence : Application of herbicide before crop and weed
emergence within 48 hrs after sowing eg: pendimethalin , Benthiocarb or Thiobencarb
Post emergence : Application of herbicide after crop and weed
emergence preferably when the weeds are in 3 to 4 leg stage eg:DICAMBA , Paraquat , Glyphosate
Directed spray : Application of herbicide by directing the
spray nozzle on weed only
