How to adjust/crop/resize photo/signature for bank or any other exam easily

Hello guys,

Well the bank exam season is on its way and its time to fill in application forms, for PO,SO AFO posts.. Candidates spend much time usually in cropping/adjusting/resizing photos to make it to the necessary format  for uploading. I have myself felt this difficulty many times..

Here I list a few steps with help of photos on how to get it done in a PC/Laptop smoothly and easily

Things you will need:
1.Scanned photo preferred/soft copy(either from smart phone will do) and a PC/laptop
2.A photo editing app (Photoshop usually but i recommend FastStone Image viewer)
3.Follow steps carefully :)

1.Check the size of the image  (in pixels)  of original image , and check what is needed for uploading

For Bank PO exams the standard size for uploading are -->

 Photograph image
Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred)
Size of file should be between 20kb–50 kb

Signature/thumb/self declaration
Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred)
Size of file should be between 10kb – 20kb

DPI of 200

How do I adjust/crop the size??

My current image Size in pixels -->  480*480, 72 dpi (To find your image size  --> right click on image and check properties, scroll down a bit )

 2. Open the image using FastStone Image viewer by right clicking on the photo and open with option click "Faststone image viewer"

1. In the faststone software window Click on this option "Resize/Resample"

2. In the pop-box uncheck "Preserve Aspect Ratio"

3.Change pixels to new values ie. "230*200 pixels"

4.Click on OK and its ready

so easy right ....!!!!

Tip: If your picture is too much wide then just use the "crop board" option to crop what part is required(your face and shoulder) into the  frame and then do the above

Okay So size adjusted, but what about DPI??

Now the size has been adjusted to 200*230 pixels , now to adjust dpi to 200
*This step can be skipped if you have used a scanner and set its resolution to 200 dpi you may save the image

For those who have used smart phones, their dpi may not be 200 but lower, mine was 72dpi so how to make it 200dpi.. here's the trick

1.Select the resize /resample option again

2.Click on the resolution drop down and set it to 200 dpi do not disturb any other values

3.Click Ok and its done

Now almost done , But what about the physical size ??

If the physical size in kb is within the standard range as prescribed (20Kb to 50 Kb) then its fine, but if its either on the heavier on the lighter side then it is a problem

So how to rectify this, Chill we have a solution..

1. Click on File and click on "Save as"

2.On the popup box down corner you will find "Jpeg quality =##some value", click on it

3.This will open the File format option, here you will find 2 boxes with original and new image comparison

4.You can either reduce the size of the image by sliding the slider to left or increase the size by sliding the slider to the right

5.For even higher file size, set quality to 100  change the "color subsampling" to high and even by changing from "photometric" to "RGB"

6. Click ok and then save the resulting file to your desired location and upload it for your exam application

Hope this helped..!!! Do share and like my page for more , any questions are more than welcome..!!!!
