New Agriculture Export policy
A new agriculture policy gets cleared by the Union cabinet on 5th December. The new policy is to fall in line with the PM's doubling farming Income objective.Objectives
Main objective of the new agriculture export policy is to = Increase India's Agriculture related exports to $60 Billion by the year 2022
Currently India's agriculture exports stand at $37 billion
Other objectives ->
- To diversify the existing country's export basket and destination
- Boosting of high value crop and Value added exports including perishables
Outlay of scheme and implementing agencies
Total outlay for implementation of the policy is estimated at 1400 Crore Rupees, already in different schemes
Nodal Ministry for monitoring of the New Agriculture policy - Ministry of Commerce
For implementation - Various ministries and representative of State Governments
Other facts
Before setting up of the new policy adequate infrastructure and logistic support for exporters will be kept in focus.
State governments to be asked to repeal mandi taxes that are applicable for export oriented goods.
Also government to identify ports that handle agri-exports
Efforts to be made in a cluster based model
Also private investment in production and processing
